Head Trainer - Jennifer Burk
Jennifer Burk began taking riding lessons while in preschool at the Willow Bend Polo Club in Dallas. After her family moved to Fort Worth, her mother was one of the founding members of the Fort Worth Pony Club (now Thundering Hooves in Weatherford.) Pony Club kept her occupied from first to third grade, when Jennifer began Eventing with Laura Miller. Jennifer was with Laura until seventh grade and then Evented with Andie Witchen through high school.
In 1995, Jennifer earned her BS in Equestrian Science from Lake Erie College where she competed through third level dressage and evented through preliminary level. Jennifer has experience in foxhunting, hunters, jumpers, dressage, and eventing.
After college, Jennifer worked as a trainer at barns in Ohio, Colorado, and locally before branching out on her own to form Deer Creek Stables. Jennifer’s clients are consistently impressed with her unique way of teaching that inspires confidence and competence in her riders. Jennifer is also an ICP Level 1T certified instructor through the United States Eventing Association (USEA). Jennifer is married and the mother of a son in high school and twin daughters in elementary school.
Assistant Trainer - Angie Heflin
Angie grew up around horses and ponies. She was the typical horse crazy kid. Reading every book written by Walter Farley and never missing episodes of Fury. Her riding experience consisted of playing around on her uncle's cutting horses on weekends. Although she didn't establish a formal discipline until she found Jennifer in 2001, she did have basic horsemanship and determination.
Angie evented for a bit but found her true love in dressage. She has ridden with Brad Cutshall, an FEI rider, trainer, and clinician, Don Sachey, Level IV Certified Instructor, USEA and former member of USET and she rides twice a year with Elizabeth Madlener, a USEF "S" and USDF "L" judge. Angie is currently showing 1st level.
Angie has a unique advantage with people new to horses. She can still remember the difficulty in acquiring the balance and coordination skills needed to ride in an english saddle! The challenge of gaining the correct skills to influence a horse and the difficult concept of dressage are always close in her mind making her an empathetic teacher. Angie also works with many green horses teaching the early skills such as lounging, ground manners, and basic dressage.
Angie is married with two children and two grand children. In the world outside of Deer Creek Stables she works as a hygienist.
